Yes - a more recent kernel seems to fix that problem!
Today I activated the proposed archive for Ubuntu 11.10 that installed kernel 3.0.0-15 at my ASUS Eee PC (1000) and fixed my freezes. :)
With "inside" I think you mean the "Dash" (of Unity).
If it's true It's not possible to change the icon size. (i.e. see this AU question)
The PPA has been updated! - Now you can find packages for Oneiric, too.
